Printing Press Bar & Kitchen – Brand Creation
The Principal Hotel Co. and Des McDonald invited us to create the branding and collateral for the new restaurant and bar at the Principal Edinburgh. The name - Printing Press Bar and Kitchen and its brand identity are a nod to the capital city and the restaurant site's rich literary heritage.
Number 25 was, in the 1780s home to the acclaimed novelist Susan Ferrier, the equal of Jane Austen according to Sir Walter Scott. Late in 1840, records show one John Oliphant living there – and Oliphant’s and Ferrier’s descendants founded Oliphant, Anderson and Ferrier, one of Scotland’s most prestigious publishing houses. Aside form the logotype and logomark, we also developed a complete visual language for the brand replete with a suite of engravings.
